MORNING DEW: 17/02/2019
THEME: WOE TO ALL IDOL WORSHIPPERS (PART ONE)
TEXT: HABAKKUK 2:18-19
“Where is the benefit in owning a carved image, that motivates its maker to carve it? It is only a cast image a teacher that lies because the engraver entrusts himself to his carving, crafting speechless idols. Woe to the one who says to a tree, Wake up! or Arise! to a speechless stone. Idols like this can’t teach, can they? Look, even though it is overlaid with gold and silver, there’s no breath in it at all.”
A graven image or representation of anything that is revered, or believed to convey spiritual power is an idol.
Idols are dangerous. They can incur God’s anger on an individual, families or a nation.
“Woe to the one who says to a tree, ‘Wake up or Arise’. The word “woe” means grief; sorrow; misery; heavy calamity.
It can also mean “curse.” Curse is not pleasant. Curse is bitter.
You can have image on your waist, wrist, leg, inside your skin, on your head, your stomach. You can also have images inside your room, your compound, outside your compound. Whatever you LOVE more than the almighty God is your idol you worship.
Whichever way it is, as far as you love it more than God, it is called idol worship and God is not happy with such people. Such people are cursed. Until they come to Jesus they would be cursed forever.
Let’s study some unknown gods served ignorantly.
THE UNKNOWN GODS SERVED (GODS OF THE HEART)
Many people think that making something in the form of tree, rock, image, are the only form of gods for worship, but frankly speaking, on daily bases, people worship idols one way or the other.
Knowingly or unknowingly many people worship these gods. For instance people worship:
Many people place money above the almighty God, they serve money without knowing, like the people of Athens who saved the unknown God (Acts 17:23). The Bible says in 1Timothy 6:10 that
“For the love of money is a root of all evils, of which some having lusted after, they were seduced from the faith and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
So people worship money, they love money more than God.
Some people place their businesses above God. Your business or job now becomes your god.
“I have business meeting” here and there has become your talk now.
Thank God for Jesus. With Jesus Christ you can amend your ways and run to Him.
Stop idol worship and come to Jesus Christ now!
Have a blessed Sunday!
“This is what the LORD of the Heavenly Armies, the God of Israel, says: “Change your ways and your deeds, and I’ll let you live in this place” (Jeremiah 7:3).
Prayer: Father, forgive me of my sins, the sins of idol worship, and cleanse me with the Blood of Jesus Christ, in Jesus’ Name!
