MORNING DEW: David, the man after God’s own heart (Part 18)

MORNING DEW: 19-11-2018

TOPIC: DAVID, THE MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART

TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 18:8

“Saul was very angry and he did not like what the women sang. He told himself, “They have attributed tens of thousands to David, but to me they have attributed thousands. What else can he have but the kingdom?”

SAUL’S JEALOUSY OF DAVID

Jealousy is a resentment (a feeling of anger) towards someone for a perceived advantage or superiority they hold.

“… jealousy is cruel as the grave…” (Song of Solomon 8:6).

What is grave? Grave denotes hell, where torture, suffering, and everlasting pains can be found.

As David returned from striking the Philistine, the women came out of all the towns of Israel to meet Saul and they said, “Saul has stricken down his thousands; But David, his ten thousands” (1 Samuel 18:7). When Saul heard this praise, he was displeased and said, “They ascribe ten thousands to David, but to me they ascribe only thousands. And what more can he have except the kingdom? So Saul eyed David from that day on” (1 Samuel 18:8-9). Saul was angry and was envious of David.

But as an experienced warrior, was it right to envy his son who was  emulating him? It was uncalled for. At least it is the desire of every leader to get people who can fill their positions after their departure, king Saul got one but was filled with a witchcraft spirit to destroy him. As a leader your departure would be useless without a solid legacy. Leaving a strong legacy behind is a sign of a good leader.

RECOMMENDED:  PRAY FOR ME 2 (AN UBELIEVER'S CRY)

Saul was rather trying to destroy what he built many years as a king, just like most of us today.

The hardships in the church life today are related to the flesh. The flesh in the church life needs to be diminished. Galatians 5:17 says, “The flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh.”

In the whole universe there is only one war – the war between man and God. The man warring against God is the flesh. The flesh wars against God as the Spirit, and God who is the Spirit is warring against our flesh. Our flesh is the real enemy of God. However, Galatians 5 not only speaks of this war but also says, “They who are of Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and its lusts” (Galatians 5:24). Christ has crucified the flesh, and now we must apply this to ourselves.

All the envious individuals are the candidates of hell fire.

RECOMMENDED:  MORNING DEW: Job desired to die

“Now the actions of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, promiscuity, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, rivalry, jealously, outbursts of anger, quarrels, conflicts, factions, envy, murder, drunkenness, wild partying, and things like that. I am telling you now, as I have told you in the past, that people who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21).

David was very different from Saul. David knew how to behave and to have his being according to God’s heart. He had no feeling for himself.

He knew how to labour and conduct himself for God’s people and God’s kingdom.

King Saul allowed the spirit of jealousy to enter him. People possessing such spirit can do anything. They are dangerous individuals and can do any dangerous act. Jealousy is a form of witchcraft.

This spirit disallows individuals to serve in the church. They compare themselves with other people and end up by doing nothing. They conclude that the leadership love others more than them and end up by doing nothing.

Jealously is a form of witchcraft which can kill you, hence, kll it before it kills you.

…to be continued…

Prayer: Help me Holy Spirit to fight the spirit of jealousy in my life, in Jesus’ Name!

Amen!
