“And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, what manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!”
THE WIND AND THE SEA OBEY HIM
The Creator of the universe, on His earthly ministry was in a ship traveling with His disciples and a strong wind arose, just to intimidate them. His disciples were already gripped with fear. They were scared.
I know some were saying their last prayers. The Master of the universe was sleeping. He saw nothing as far as that problem was concerned, but His disciples saw trouble.
The disciples were shouting on top of their voices. The wind too was very strong so the ship was not stable. Also, I know water was entering the ship.
Being God, He knew what was to come and what was happening at that moment. But He pretended to be sleeping just to see the reaction of His disciples.
They tried of managing the situation using their own experiences, most of them were fishermen before they were called by Jesus. Unfortunately their experiences could not work so they had to consult Jesus, the Master of the universe, the one who said, “let there be light and there was light”, the one who commanded the sea to be at one place, He owns both the wind and the sea. He was officially invited into the situation.
They finally woke Him up and said; “Lord, save us: we perish.”
Beloved, that was prayer. Is it the same Jesus you believe? Then call on Him now. He won’t act until He hears your voice. He got up with a surprised look; “why are you fearful?” Because He was expecting them to do something, that’s exercising their faith – the faith they had in Him, but rather they were exercising their own experiences. He gave them authority, so He was expecting them to exercise their authority.
Christian, are you exercising your authority? You only need to speak out.
He then rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm. The word “rebuke” being used here is not a palatable word. It is very harsh, so let’s put it this way: “you stubborn wind and sea, don’t you have respect for your owner?, how dare you trouble me and my people?; be calm now I say”! And that was it.
Wow!, authority is good. Children of God, your own experiences cannot help you. Your so-called intelligence is useless without Jesus.
Beloved, He is still the same Jesus today. What is wrong with you? Is it sickness, marital problems, barrenness, poverty, etc., just allow Him into your ship (your heart) and call on Him. He is knocking at your door (your heart) (Revelation 3:20), allow Him enter. You only need to call Him.
He just want acknowledgement from you and all will be well. You will marvel and say “what manner of man is this, that even winds (troubles) and the sea (obstacles) obey Him”?
Stop depending on your own abilities, in fact, before Jesus they are nothing. You need Jesus Christ now to stop the boisterous wind and the sea troubling you day and night.
If He is silent on your condition, stop worrying yourself, wandering about, if you like go to India you won’t get any positive results. Some of you will start visiting false prophets who will inject demons into the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit, and eventually you would die as a sinner.
Listen, if He is silent doesn’t mean He is not aware of the situation, no, He is aware but may want you to exercise your faith or your authority, or His grace may be sufficient for you as He told Paul, means, He is saying “carry it because my grace will keep you”.
When this happens if you like go to any man of God, the situation will remain same, just that you will spend on false men of God a lot, because everywhere you go they will ask you to buy oil, water, sticker, you will pay consultation fee, buy milk, give huge offerings, etc. They will tell you stories that do not exist.
Beware!
There is no need to fear since Jesus is in the ship (your heart).
Prayer: Lord, I know you can, therefore do it for me, in Jesus’ Name!
