Former NFL star Tim Tebow’s older brother Robby believes the forthcoming film “Run the Race” will resonate with people of all ages because it deals with difficult real-life experiences and moments with which everyone can identify.

“There are times in life where you’re going to get knocked down, you’re going to face adversity, you’re going to have tough times, and it’s about getting through it,” Robby told The Gospel Herald in an exclusive interview. “And I think that’s what this movie does really well.”

In the forthcoming movie “Run the Race,” for which both Tim and Robby Tebow served as executive producers, two brothers face a number of challenges as they strive to run the race of life well.

Faced with the death of their mother, their father’s absence, and various personal struggles, Zach and Dave Truett learn to rely on one another as they each have powerful encounters with God.

Reads the film synopsis: “Reeling from his mother’s death and his father’s abandonment, Zach, an All-State athlete, finds glory on the football field, working to earn a college scholarship and the brothers’ ticket out of town. When a devastating injury puts Zach-and his dreams-on the sidelines, David laces up his track cleats to salvage their future and point Zach toward hope.”

Robby told GH that the film is the culmination of an exhaustive, six-year process: “We wanted to make something with great acting and great story that could really resonate with people,” he said, adding: “I think a lot of times a faith movie can kind of get put in a box and judged a certain way because maybe the production value isn’t high. I think as Christians we should strive to be at the highest standard of what we do.”

“We didn’t set out to just make a movie,” he explained. “It was about telling a story and doing in a great way that hopefully relates to a lot of people.”

Starring Mykelti Williamson, Frances Fisher, Tanner Stine, Evan Hofer, and Kelsey Reinhardt, “Run the Race” highlights the importance of surrounding oneself with encouraging, God-honoring individuals. As the middle of five siblings, Robby Tebow said he identifies with that theme.

“Be around people that, that love you and support you no matter even if they believe exactly what you believe,” he said. “Have a support system. One of the verses my dad would tell us is in Proverbs – if you’re hanging with wise men, you become wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

“And so it’s about surrounding yourself with people that love and support and have your back,” he said. “That that’s really powerful.”

Hitting theatres February 22, “Run the Race” is Tebow’s first foray into film – but it won’t be his last.

“We definitely plan on doing more films,” he late told GH on the red carpet. “This journey was so amazing. And when you love something, when you love what you do and you’re passionate about it, it doesn’t matter how long the day is because it doesn’t ever feel like work.”

And while “Run the Race” is an overtly Christian film, Tebow said he believes it will resonate with everyone, regardless of age, gender, or religious affiliation.

“There are sports, there’s romance, there’s laughter, there are all kinds of different things in this movie that will resonate, there’s adversity, there are hard times, there’s family. It covers a lot of different things. It’s not just sports and it’s not just drama, but it’s kind of a mixture of a lot of those things,” he explained.

But overwhelmingly, the film highlights what happens when we run too – and not from – the love of God.

“We’re all running our race,” Tebow said. “God is running with you and He wants to run not just with you, but He’s running at you. It’s a cool thing for me just to step back at times and think about that and have a different perspective that He wants to be alongside us.”
