President Buhari reacts to the execution of Rev. Andimi
Reverend Lawal Andimi was deprived of life by Boko Haram this week and the incident has drawn a hybrid of reactions from Nigerian natives and beyond. It is a solemn moment for the bereaved family, Christian Association of Nigeria and the Universal Church. Reverend Andimi was the Chairman for the Christian Association of Nigeria at Adamawa State. During his abduction, he pleaded to the authorities to ensure his safe release but all efforts could not meet the standards of Boko Haram and saw unfortunately, the cleric was beheaded.
The Nigerian Stateman, H.E Mahammadu Buhari has publicly condemned the killing of the man of God. He described the situation as cruel, inhuman and deliberately provocative. He comforted and strengthened the Christian community and the family of the deceased. He also cited that the military would use the incident to motivate itself in defeating all terrorist groups perpetrating death, violence and destruction in Nigeria and West Africa as a whole.
Nigeria’s northeast region has seen 36,000 people murdered and millions displaced. In December, a terrorist group boasted in a video of beheading Christians after being abducted in Maiduguri and Damaturu. A Chritian bride and her bridal team were also killed by gunmen days before their wedding.
CAN has appealed to International communities to come to the aid of Christians as they no longer feel safe in the country. It has also declared 3 days fasting and prayers for all Christians.
