TOPIC: DAVID, THE MAN AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART
TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 18:6-11
“When David returned from defeating the Philistine, as they were entering the city, women from all the towns of Israel came out to meet King Saul, singing and dancing as they joyously played tambourines and lyres. As the women sang and played, they said, “Saul has struck down his thousands but David his ten thousands.” Saul was very angry and he did not like what the women sang. He told himself, “They have attributed tens of thousands to David, but to me they have attributed thousands. What else can he have but the kingdom?” From then on Saul kept his eye on David. The next day, while David was playing the lyre as he had before, the evil spirit from the LORD attacked Saul, and he began to rave inside the house with a spear in his hand. Saul hurled it, thinking, “I’ll pin David to the wall.” But David escaped from him twice.”
SAUL HAS STRUCK DOWN HIS THOUSANDS BUT DAVID HIS TEN THOUSANDS
The women, after David’s victory over the Philistine, became happy and poured out their hearts before king Saul, “Saul has struck down his thousands but David his ten thousands.”
These were just figures, thousands and ten thousands, same figures.
“If a thousand fall at your side or ten thousand at your right hand, it will not overcome you.” (Psalm 91:7).
The fact is that, thousand troops and ten thousand troops were all the same. Besides they met king Saul with the song not David which was reverence to king Saul.
But king Saul didn’t like the assessment of the women. He became angry and monitored David’s movement. He saw David as an obstacle to his throne. David became his enemy. He tried twice to kill him. But as Christians should we kill our enemies?
LOVE YOUR ENEMIES
People who hate us are our enemies, that’s our definition of enemies. We should pray for such people per the scriptures. People who want to kill us. People who are looking for our downfall. People who wish we were not born. People who persecute us. All those people are our enemies and need to be prayed for according to Jesus in Matthew 5:43-48.
But who is behind the activities of such people? Satan.
Satan, therefore, is our archenemy.
The word “enemy” is “echthros” in Greek means (to hate); hateful (passively odious or actively hostile); usually as a noun an adversary (especially Satan): – enemy foe.
Per the definition of the word “enemy,” did David deserve to be called Saul’s enemy? No! Because David never intended to kill king Saul.
Praying for your enemies, beloved, you are dealing with the enemy responsible for their actions. Jesus did not say kill your enemies so stop those judgemental prayers. God loves humanity so much. If killing our enemies solve our problems, then God would have killed all those who refuse to serve Him on earth.
Imagine you pray that all your enemies should die and all your family members begin to die one after the other and you are left alone, how will you feel? You ask God to kill a witch who is harassing you day and night, then the witch dies. The spirit using the witch then leaves the dead body because it has achieved its purpose (to steal, kill and destroy – John 10:10) and then enter another living body with the same agenda. Let me ask you, how many people will you kill then?
God can kill people who torment us on His own time, after using all means to get them repented yields no results. It is not your business killing them.
King Herod killed James (Acts 12:2). He also arrested Peter to kill him but God saved Peter (Acts 12:1-12) and allowed Herod to live. The church never prayed judgmental prayers but rather interceded for Peter (Acts 12:5) until God Himself killed Herod in Acts 12:21-23.
You obey what Jesus says in the Bible and pray for all your enemies and leave the rest to God. The increase of false prophets in the system is as the result of this enemy syndrome. Somebody is after your life so take this oil, water, sticker and use as directed to either kill or torment them.
God wish for humankind is to get them saved. He doesn’t want a soul to die without knowing Him. So as His children we should carry same heart, Christians having God’s own heart.
WHY WE SHOULD LOVE OUR ENEMIES – FOUR POINTS DEDUCED FROM THE TEXT
- Because we are God’s vicegerent on earth so He wants us to be mindful of God’s agenda for humanity.
- Because Satan is responsible for their actions.
- In order to be like our Father.
- To receive a reward from our Father.
Beloved, you have seen it all in the four points above deduced from the text. It is a command to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us.
Jealousy is the cause of most of these cases which king Saul displayed.
Avoid jealousy Christian, because jealousy is a form of witchcraft.
Prayer: Thank you Lord for this revelation. Help me have your heart, to love and to keep praying for my enemies, in Jesus Name!
Amen!
