Lessons Learnt On The Field Of Soul Winning

More than 2 years ago, my cousin died and we were at his funeral paying our last respects to the mortal remains as custom demands.

Just when the casket was about to be lifted to the cemetery, one tall surly guy came out from nowhere with a machete in his hand pointing towards a group of men who stood gently behind the casket.

I immediately sighed with anger within. I inquired from someone close about the identity of the guy and he replied by mentioning his name first and went on further to reveal him as known for his notoriety.

I started commanding the spirit behind that action to cease but the more I did, the more the guy was poised to cause attention from the casket and the funeral to himself.

Soon, the opposition decided to respond to his threats but a mature man came to calm down the opposition so the surly guy was left alone. Knowing that the opposition wasn’t interested, he lowered down the machete but still cussing the opposition.

I looked from afar with the utmost fury. Two friends of his had to come and take the machete from him before the casket was lifted en route to the cemetery.

3 weeks later, I went to prisons to minister the word of God as our custom every Saturday. Lo and behold, there was this surly guy quietly seated waiting for me to preach.

Suddenly, I was reminded of his foolery displayed at my late cousin’s funeral so I decided to speak against him that day but on second thought, I decided not to ruin my reputation achieved through ministration to inmates with longsuffering.

I presented my message as led by the Spirit and though he didn’t join the new members who received Christ, he was seen seated quietly listening and showed up at every service I led at the prison for months.

One day, I had gone to lead a sister to receive the in-filling of the Spirit with tongues speaking as the initial evidence. We were all filled with joy after the success of it when I saw this guy with a lady and three other guys in a corner.

Usually, I reach out to inmates when they come home after serving their sentence but this time around, I decided to ignore this once surly guy because of his foolery displayed at the funeral. I was still offended I guess.

To my surprise, this guy screamed my name out happily and began introducing me to his companions as his Pastor and even asked that I pray for him.

Truthfully, I felt irresponsible and incompetent as a soul winner on the spot. I didn’t know he admired me or could recognize me anywhere. So I ashamedly approached him with a shamefaced to pray with him.

I left with a great lesson that day about soul-winning.

Lesson 1. The power of the gospel has no limits when received in the hearts of men even the chief of sinners.

Lesson 2 . Let’s not reject or count anyone unworthy to be saved.

Lesson 3. As carriers of the Gospel, let’s not be pushed away from the lost due to their way of life.

Lesson 4. Every soul-winning giant must have a forgiving heart, know how to deal with offenses, and also learn to remain selfless.
