Lessons from Paul’s prayer for the Ephesians church

“That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him; The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his power…….. (Ephesians 1:17)

Paul affectionately prayed for new believers who came into Christ in Ephesians. The prayer was strategic and impactful on the new believers.

Paul wanted the believers to have an unbridled relationship with God and have first-hand experience with God. He highlighted on the relevance on the proximity one has with God.

He addressed the qualities of God initially to the believers by calling him the “God of our Lord Jesus and the Father of glory”.

This unequivocally helps the people who they are worshiping. Since God is a Spirit, the right approach to worshiping Him is through the Spirit.

Paul then prayed that the eyes of their understanding may be enlightened to know the true God and His tremendous power that is made available to them.

Paul was hell-bent to reveal the quality of life the new believers had come into and why they should take advantage of the new life ahead of them.
